Install in a minute.
Shiftvert isn't in Apple's paid developer program, so macOS asks you to approve it the first time you open it.
Download Shiftvert
Get Shiftvert.zip. Safari unzips it for you; in Chrome, click it in the downloads list.
Move it to Applications
Drag Shiftvert from Downloads into Applications in the Finder sidebar.
Open it once
Double-click Shiftvert in Applications. macOS says it couldn't check Shiftvert for malware. That's normal for apps outside Apple's paid developer program: click Done (or OK), not Move to Trash.
The wording varies by macOS version.
Click Open Anyway
Open Apple menu → System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to the bottom and click Open Anyway next to “Shiftvert” was blocked. Confirm with Touch ID or your password; if macOS asks once more, click Open Anyway again.
No Open Anyway button? It only shows for about an hour after you try to open the app, so double-click Shiftvert again and come back.
Drag, then hold ⇧
Look for in the menu bar, then start dragging any file and hold ⇧ Shift.
Tip: pick the file up first, then press ⇧. Holding ⇧ before you click makes Finder select extra files.
Can't see the icon (say, behind the notch)? Open Shiftvert again: its menu appears at the pointer. macOS may ask once to let it use your Desktop, Documents or Downloads folder so it can save results next to your files.
Updating. The latest version is 1.0 (yours is shown in Shiftvert's menu). Download it again, quit the old Shiftvert, drag the new one into Applications and choose Replace, then approve it once more with Open Anyway.
